Trusting God While Healing From Heartbreak

Why heartbreak can shake faith

Why heartbreak can shake faith

Why heartbreak can shake faith

A man in a mustard sweater looks stressed and contemplative on a couch.

One of the hardest parts of heartbreak is not only losing the relationship, it is struggling with God afterward.

Many people quietly wrestle with thoughts like:

  • “God, why did You allow this?”
  • “Why didn’t You stop this from happening?”
  • “Why did I pray for this relationship if it was going to end?”
  • “Why did You let me get attached?”
  • “Why did You let me be betrayed?”
  • “Why didn’t You warn me?”
  • “Why does it feel like You stayed silent?”
  • “Did I misunderstand Your plan?”
  • “Can I trust You after this pain?”

Some people feel guilty for having these thoughts.

But heartbreak often exposes spiritual disappointment, confusion, grief, fear, and wounded trust.

God is not afraid of honest emotions.

💌From Shay: You do not have to understand everything immediately to begin healing. Sometimes healing begins with simply saying:

“God, I still want relationship with You even while I’m hurting.”

Trust can be rebuilt.

Peace can return.

God can heal both the heartbreak and the spiritual disappointment the heartbreak created.

How pain affects trust

Pain can create emotional confusion.

Sometimes heartbreak affects:

  • faith
  • prayer life
  • emotional stability
  • trust
  • hope
  • identity
  • spiritual intimacy

Many brokenhearted people still love God deeply while struggling emotionally with disappointment.

The Bible is full of people who questioned, grieved, cried, wrestled emotionally, and struggled to understand suffering.

God did not abandon them for their honesty.

Sometimes people believed:

  • this relationship was from God
  • the relationship would last forever
  • prayers guaranteed protection from heartbreak
  • love would heal loneliness
  • commitment meant safety
  • God would stop betrayal before it happened

When the relationship ends painfully, people may feel:

  • spiritually confused
  • abandoned emotionally
  • disappointed with God
  • ashamed
  • angry
  • emotionally unsafe
  • afraid to hope again

Heartbreak can make people question:

“If God loves me, why did He allow this?”

💌From Shay: Important Truth

God Allowing Free Will Is Not The Same As God Wanting Your Pain

People still make choices.

God does not force people:

  • to love honestly
  • to stay faithful
  • to communicate maturely
  • to heal emotionally
  • to choose healthy behavior

Sometimes heartbreak is connected to:

  • dishonesty
  • emotional immaturity
  • unhealthy attachment
  • betrayal
  • unresolved trauma
  • incompatible values
  • poor communication
  • repeated toxic cycles
  • people resisting growth

God can warn, guide, convict, redirect, and protect,  but people still have free will and unfortunately make choices that hurt others.

Sometimes God Was Protecting You More Than Punishing You

Not every ending is rejection from God.

Sometimes endings are:

  • protection
  • redirection
  • preparation
  • exposure
  • spiritual awakening
  • emotional healing
  • freedom from unhealthy attachment

Sometimes people grieve relationships that were also hurting them deeply.

You Can Love Someone And Still Need Healing From Them

Many people confuse:

  • attachment with peace
  • chemistry with safety
  • emotional intensity with love
  • inconsistency with passion
  • longing with purpose

Sometimes heartbreak reveals:

  • abandonment wounds
  • fear of rejection
  • emotional dependency
  • trauma bonds
  • insecurity
  • people-pleasing
  • identity struggles

God may use painful seasons to expose areas that need healing.

Not to shame you —
but to restore you.

 Forgiving God does NOT mean:

  • God sinned
  • God failed morally
  • God was cruel

Forgiving God often means:

  • releasing disappointment
  • surrendering confusion
  • grieving unmet expectations
  • letting go of bitterness
  • rebuilding trust slowly
  • accepting that you do not understand everything yet

Sometimes people are not actually angry at God’s character —
they are grieving painful outcomes they never wanted.

Inspirational message about trusting God and choosing faith over fear.

They Who Trust in the Lord Will Never Be Disappointed. Romans 10:11

When what we want clashes with what God wants for us, instantly disappointment emerges. It's normal to feel this way, but don't let it stay. Being in your trusting God era means embracing the mindset of 'not my will, but His be done.' God knows the end from the beginning. He understands everyone—their heart, mind, motivation, and intentions. He sees the past, present, and future simultaneously. If there is anyone who knows what you should be doing, where you should be going, and who you should be with, it is God. Trust Him. Surrender your desires to Him, and commit to knowing Him through Christian devotionals; then His desires will become your desires. His will for your life will take root and flourish as you deepen your faith and healing journey with Him. Truly, living the life He died to give you is the most fulfilling state of being there is. Trust in Him, and that is exactly what you will experience. Let's journey to trusting God together. Awe-inspiring has your back.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for being the creator and sustainer of this world and everything in it. You chose me, and you made me in your image and likeness. Thank you for your love and for your presence. You are enthroned in Heaven and are intimately concerned about me, watchfully. I thank you. You have given me your Spirit, your Son, and your Word to operate successfully in life, to overcome all obstacles and the deceit of the evil one. Bless me to draw near to you in a heart of trust and love for you. I fully surrender to you; my heart, my desires, my will. I ask that you take my life and do something extraordinary with it. You have a great plan for my life, and it is the best plan. I choose you, Father. Help me to honor you and obey you; to hear your voice and follow you. I thank you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
